Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, concluded his 12-day US visit with a meeting with Mr. Peter Shumlin, the Governor of Vermont, in his office on December 16, 2013, where they discussed the current situation inside Tibet with the wave of self immolation protests against the Chinese government since Febuary 2009.

The Office of Tibet based in New York City with respective Tibetan Associations organized the Speaker’s visit to Tibetan communities based in 7 states including Minnesota, Chicago, Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

The speaker also visited Radio Free Asia (RFA), Voice of America (VOA Tibetan Service), National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) based in Washington, DC where he engaged with staff members of the respective organizations.

The speaker says that he is pleased with his 12-day visit to the United States primarily for being able to talk to a large number of Tibetans, while clearing certain misunderstandings.
