The prime ministers of rival neighbor states India and Pakistan have met briefly on the sidelines of the nuclear summit underway in Washington.
Photos show the two men smiling, Monday evening, as they shook hands and chatted for several minutes at a dinner hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama for the several dozen heads-of-state in attendance.
Indian External Affairs spokesman Vishnu Prakash told reporters the men "exchanged pleasantries."
There is no official meeting planned between the two countries during the summit, but officials say more substantive talks are planned later this month, when both men will attend a summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
Long-time rivals Pakistan and India conducted nuclear tests in 1998, and have fought three wars since partition and independence in 1947.
