The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama successfully concluded his weeklong religious teachings in Nubra Valley in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region bordering Tibet on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Dalai Lama gave teachings on Geshe Langri Thangpa's Eight Verses of Training the Mind and Tsongkhapa's The Three Principal Paths.
The Dalai Lama arrived Nubra Valley in Ladakh bordering Tibet July 20 morning where he was welcomed by representatives of the local administration and monastic officials.
The revered Tibetan spiritual leader gave teachings at Samtenling Monastery in Sumur from July 21-22. On July 23, the Dalai Lama gave teachings on the oral transmission of The Diamond Sutra to over 7,000 Buddhist devotees on Friday at Yama Gonbo Monastery located about 65 kilometers from Samtenling Monastery.
On Sunday, the Dalai Lama blessed the new 100 feet high Maitreya statue at Diskit Monastery, the region's oldest and largest monastery. Many important dignitaries including the Gaden Tripa, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Thiksey Rinpoche were present.
The Dalai Lama first visited Ladakh in 1967, followed by frequent visits to Leh, Nyuma, Hanle, Zanskar and Nubra to give teachings to the large number of Buddhists residing in the region. The Tibetan leader also gave Kalachakra initiations in Leh in 1976 and in Zangskar in 1988.
The Dalai Lama will depart for Dharamsala in Northern India Wednesday where he is scheduled to give teachings to Korean Buddhists.
