The Dalai Lama, along with seven other Nobel Peace Prize laureates and hundreds of peace activist called on the world leaders to bring about the "universal, legal and verifiable elimination of nuclear weapons" at the end of three days gathering in Warsaw, Poland on October 23, 2013.

The gathering in Warsaw marked 30 years since Lech Walesa, the human rights activist who also served as the Polish President between 1990 and 1995, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for leading the solidarity movement that ultimately toppled communism in Poland.

The Dalai Lama urged his fellow laureates to continue working for peace and stability in the world. The peace prize laureates called on the Chinese government to release jailed dissident writer Liu Xiaobo, who is a recipient of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

The next meeting is expected to be held in Cape Town, South Africa.
