Thailand Rejects Dalai Lama's Sister བོད་སྐད།

Thailand has denied a visa to the sister of the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader.

A Thai Foreign Ministry official says Jetsun Pema and her husband had applied for visas to attend a cultural festival that begins Friday in Bangkok. The younger sister of the Tibetan spiritual leader was scheduled to speak at the event.

Foreign Minister's secretary Chavanond Intarakomalyasut says Thailand reserved its right to reject the visa application because it does not want to get involved in international politics.

China has accused the Dalai Lama of inciting separatist rebellion in Tibet. The Dalai Lama has said he is advocating Tibet's cultural autonomy within China.

Jetsun Pema, the first Tibetan woman to have held a cabinet berth in the Tibetan exile government, was scheduled to deliver speech on "Buddhist Education for Tibetan school in exile and Tibet: My story," on March 6.
