Video Links CIA Bomber to Taliban Leader བོད་སྐད།

A newly released video shows a man said to be the suicide bomber who killed seven U.S. intelligence agents in Afghanistan vowing to avenge the death of former Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud.

The video, aired Saturday by a Pakistani broadcaster (AAJ) and an Arabic news channel, Al-Jazeera, shows a man identified as Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi wearing traditional Afghan clothing sitting next to new Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud.

Al-Balawi, identifying himself as "the Jordanian," says U.S. and Jordanian intelligence agencies offered him millions of dollars to spy on the Taliban. But he says he went to the Taliban instead and "told them everything."

He also says his attack would be the first of many on U.S. targets.

The authenticity of the video could not be confirmed.

Balawi blew himself up at a meeting with U.S. intelligence agents with the Central Intelligence Agency at a base in Afghanistan's eastern Khost province December 30.

The attack also killed a Jordanian intelligence official.

Both the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier this week the top al-Qaida commander in Afghanistan claimed the attack was retribution for the deaths of former Pakistani Taliban leader Mehsud, as well as two top al-Qaida commanders.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.
