Asian Medicine Conference in Bhutan བོད་སྐད།


Tibetan medicine took the centre stage when the 7th International Congress on Traditional Asian Medicine was held in the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu from 7 to 11 September.

"I felt that in the conference the participants deliberated on Tibetan medicine most of the time." says Dr. Pema Dorjee, Member of the Advisory Board of the Tibetan M edical and Astro. Institute based in Dharamsala, Himachal.

More than 200 participants of traditional medicine doctors from China, Nepal, India and anthropologists from the west took active participation in the International Congress inaugurated by Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Universities Bhutan Lonpo Khado Wangchuk.

Many Tibetan doctors from Tibet were among the participants of the conference and they presented papers. "They spoke on the efficacy of Tibetan medicine, the protection of medicinal plants, and the effect of degradation of environment." said Dr. Pema Dorjee and continued that from India the Director of TMAI and others presented papers on Tibetan medicine.

Many western anthropologists presented their research works related to Asian medicine during the conference. An exhibition of photographs on "Tibetan Medicine" was also organized.
