Afghan Officials: At Least 19 Killed in Kabul Suicide Attacks  བོད་སྐད།


Afghan officials say at least 19 people have been killed and 46 others wounded in nearly simultaneous suicide bomb attacks in the capital, Kabul.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks Wednesday in phone calls to VOA and other reporters in Kabul. Afghan officials at least seven militants died in the assault.

A reported five suicide bombers, armed with automatic weapons, attacked the Afghan Justice Ministry at about 5:30 UTC in the center of Kabul near the presidential palace.

VOA correspondent at the scene Barry Newhouse says the Afghan army and police have sealed off the surrounding area.

Another attack targeted the general directorate of prisons. The Taliban claim two suicide bombers attacked the building.
