Dalai Lama Opens Conference on Buddhism & Science བོད་སྐད།

The Dalai Lama inaugurated the "International Conference on Buddhism and Science" at Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi on January 15. "The purpose of this conference is to discuss on how to improve the level of understanding of the reality of all phenomena and to establish the collaboration of Science and Buddhism to benefit the humankind," the Dalai Lama told the gathering of some 200 participants.

The Tibetan leader also unveiled the new name of the Institute in English as "Central University of Tibetan Studies." Prof. B. Alan Wallace from Santa Barbara, USA gave the key-note address of the three-day conference titled "Buddhism and Science: Confrontation and Collaboration." During the three -day conference, the participants will deliberate on the three main focus themes: "Concept of Mind in Buddhism," "Buddhist Philosophy and Physics" and "Buddhist Ethics and Modern Science." Around 200 participants from monasteries and universities have come to attend the Conference including 100 from abroad
