London Dialogue on Rights, Beijing Arrests Tibetans བོད་སྐད།

The United Kingdom Monday holds its human rights dialogue with China under a strong criticism from the main UK Tibetan support group.

In an interview with VOA Tibetan Service, Free Tibet Campaign spokes person Matt Whitticase said the so called human rights dialogue has been used as "smoke screen" to say they are acting on human rights, but their main goal is trade relations with China. "When you look at actual progress, no progress has been made what so ever," added Mr. Whitticase.

UK Foreign Office spokesperson Lucy Torrington refused to be interviewed, but in an e-mail statement said the dialogue gives UK an opportunity to express its concerns over China's human rights issue, including "Tibet, Human rights defenders and China's progress towards ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights." China has made no mention about this meeting yet. However, in June, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokespersons Qin Gang declared that China does not improve its human rights because of the pressure from any country.
