Nepalese Police Arrest Tibetans for Protesting at Chinese Embassy བོད་སྐད།


On Tuesday about 100 Tibetan protested against Chinese government near Chinese embassy consulate. Police personnel had arrested about 70 of them and Wednesday, 69 Tibetans were taken to Nepal Immigration Department for scrutiny. Thereafter, they were taken back to Maharaj Gang police station. Out of 69, 56 are male and 13 are female. The eldest is 60 years old and youngest 17. At present, it is not clear how long they will be detained.

Since March 2008, about 5000 Tibetans were detained for protesting against Chinese government in Katmandu city and most of them were released within six hours of detention, and rest within 24 hours, a NGO Human Rights official said. On Wednesday 44 Tibetans were arrested protesting against Chinese government.
