Karmapa’s visit to the US and the China Earthquake བརྙན་འཕྲིན།

Gyalwa Karmapa Orgen Trinley Dorje’s first trip to the US and outside of India, since his dramatic escape from Tibet in 2000. As head of the Kagyu Tibetan Buddhist sect, he is the only head of a sect that has been both reckognised by the Dalai Lama and sanctioned by the authorities in China. He will visit New York, Colorado and Seattle to give teachings and renew contacts made by his predecessor in the 1980s and 1990s. Gonpo Tsering, the English language secretary of the Karmapa join us from New Delhi.

The devastating earthquake’s epicenter falls close to many Tibetan towns and villages and little news has come out on it’s impact in those places. The area is also close to several of the places where protests and detentions have occurred over the last two months and where ‘Re-education’ is being conducted in the local monaseries.
