Suicide Bombing at Baghdad Police Recruitment Center Kills 13

Iraqi police say a suicide bomber has blown himself up at a police recruitment center in Baghdad, killing at least 13 people and wounding more than 15 others.

Authorities say the attacker, believed to have been wearing an explosive vest, detonated the charge outside the police center early Thursday.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says two American soldiers and one Marine were killed in separate attacks in Anbar province and south of Baghdad in the past two days.

As violence in Iraq continues unabated, the new U.S. defense secretary has been discussing a possible increase in the number of American troops in the country.

Robert Gates, who arrived in Baghdad Wednesday, met with Iraqi officials and U.S. commanders. He says U.S. officials must first consider how large any troop increase would be and what its mission would be.

President Bush says he has not decided whether to send more troops to Iraq.

A seperate military statement issued today said coalition forces killed seven insurgents during an operation in the volatile Baquba region earlier this week.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, Reuters and AFP.
