EU and human Rights Watch Call on China for Full Investigation of Tibetan Shootings

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Thursday aimed at turning the spotlight on human rights abuses. MEPs condemns the excessive use of force by the Chinese People’s Armed Police in firing upon unarmed Tibetan civilians, including children. The resolution "urges the Chinese authorities to conduct a full investigation into the events at Nangpa Pass and ensure that those responsible for any crimes committed there are brought to justice". The Council and Commission are asked to reiterate their position that "only dialogue between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the representatives of the Dalai Lama can contribute to a peaceful and sustainable settlement for Tibet". Tsering Jampa, executive director of Europe Division of International Campaign for Tibet said the resolution adopted by 66 votes to 0 with 0 abstentions which shows MEPs unanimously support the resolution.
