Iraqi police say gunmen have stormed the offices of a new television station, Shaabiya, in eastern Baghdad, killing 11 employees in one of the biggest attacks yet on media in Iraq.
The executive manager of the Iraqi satellite station, Hassan Kamil, says gunmen raided the building early Thursday killing guards, technicians and administrative staff. He says the head of the station's board of directors was among the dead.
The manager says he could not speculate on who may have been behind the attack.
In other violence, at least eight people were killed and many others wounded in a series of bomb blasts in Baghdad.
The U.S. military said one American solider was killed and two others wounded in action in northern Iraq on Wednesday.
The military says the soldiers were attacked while they conducted operations in Kirkuk province.
