European Parliament  Urges Nepal to Restore Tibetan Exit Permit

The European Parliament, on May 18,2006, passed a resolution calling on the Nepalese government to 'protect Tibetan refugees in transit to India, and end the suspension of exit permits without delay'. The resolution, which focuses on recent political developments in Nepal, criticizes the Nepalese government's decision to suspend issuing exit permits to Tibetan refugees for their onward travel to India since November 2005, stating that this has 'left hundreds of Tibetans stranded in Nepal, and has exacerbated severe overcrowding' at he Refugee Reception Center in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu. Director Jampa hopes that the resolution, put forth by Mr. Thomas Mann, will restore Exit Permits for the Tibetans.
