Yungchen Lhamo is the only Tibetan vocalist featured on the international stage, regularly touring and performing with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Natalie Merchant and Annie Lennox. But while she is the most internationally well-known Tibetan vocal performer, she is virtually unknown among Tibetans inside Tibet.
On Wednesday, the VOA Tibetan Television broadcast will host Yungchen Lhamo to discuss her remarkable journey from carpet-weaving in Lhasa to performing on the global stage. The program will explore why her critically-acclaimed vocal career has yet to find a Tibetan audience.
