Winners of Kids Essay Competition Declared

After witnessing firsthand how the Jewish communities in England are actively preserving their language and culture by teaching their kids at an early age, a Scotland based Tibetan man Ngawang Phuntsok decided to initiate an essay competition to preserve Tibetan language.

Phuntsok tells VOA that although his Tibetan is not good, his decision to organize a Tibetan essay competition for kids below the age of ten was to encourage the youngest kids in the community to show interest in their mother language.

A total of 167 students from Tibetan schools in India participated in the essay contest, which was organized through Facebook and unlike other competitions, Facebook users decided the winners based on the number of likes each essay received.
