Culture Education Through Songs and Dances
Interview with Nelung Tsering Topden, widely acclaimed Tibetan singer based in Switzerland, on his work and passion. Nelung talked about his special efforts in teaching young Tibetans authentic, traditional music, and his observation of younger generation Tibetan's interest in reviving the old classical Tibetan performing arts. He said that parents should take the responsibility and encourage their children to sing simple folk songs early in life to avoid difficulty in learning Tibetan songs and music later in life. However, he admitted that one major hurdle he faces these days is the growing number of young folks who cannot read or speak the Tibetan language.
