“If you believe in a future of prosperity for American people, you certainly should be for this agreement. If you believe in a future of peace and security for Asia and the world, you should be for this agreement,” President Bill Clinton was reasoning why China should be part of the World Trade Organization in a new documentary film called Death by China. However, the movie is not in an agreement with former president’s vision. It argues that because China has joined the TWO, American people have lost their prosperity as their jobs were shifted to China, and that the world is more unsafe as China is building up its military power. The film maker Peter Navarro, a Professor of Economics and Public Policy in UC Irvine and the author of best seller books, explains to the Tibet in Review program of VOA that he hopes this movie to stop made-in-China products and to elect a president who will “crackdown on China’s illegal trade practices.” He says he wants a government who can “relink” the human rights in China and Tibet to the trade practices of China. The film is currently being shown in Ohio, one of the battleground states, but Mr. Navarro says he will continue to show it in other states, starting in other swing states. The film, which criticizes both political parties in the U.S. for “failing” to work for American people but for corporations, was first screened in Washington DC on Saturday in Laogai Research Foundation.
