Tibetan elected leader Lobsang Sangay paid a courtesy visit to the newly elected Himachal Pradesh chief minister Shri Virbhadra Singh yesterday at the circuit house in Dharamshala.
Mr. Sangay was accompanied by Mr. Tsering Dhondup, minister for the Department of Finance, Central Tibetan Administration. Mr. Sangay presented a traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf and a Tibetan thangka painting to Shri Virbhadra Singh as a token of greeting and congratulation for assuming the office of the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
"The chief minister also honored Sikyong Sangay with a traditional Himachali shawl and a cap. He spoke about his familys' deep rooted relation to Tibet and his wish of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's return to Tibet during his lifetime," said Jigme Namgyal, Mr. Sangay's personal secretary.
Also present was Shri Sudhir Sharma, Urban Development and Town and Country Planning minister and Forest Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Himachali lawmakers are currently in Tapovan, near Dharamshala, to attend a four-day session of the newly-elected 12th Himachal Pradesh Assembly, which began January 8.
