Dharamsala, the seat of Tibetan administration-in-exile was hit by four mild earthquakes in the past two days, triggering panic among residents of the area. No loss of life and property has been reported.

The first quake of 4.5 intensity on Richter scale hit the region at 9.15 am Tuesday and the last one hit Dharamsala around 4 pm today.

The Dalai Lama laughed when he felt the second tremor yesterday while giving a teaching at Tsuk-Lag-khang temple.

Tsering Dhondup, Researcher at Environment and Development Desk, said that while some consider the frequent mild quakes as warning of a stronger one to come, others believe the mild qaukes will prevent a strong one.

Dharamsala was hit with a 7.8 intensity quake in 1905 which took hundreds of lives.
