A 26-year-old mother of two has died after setting herself on fire in China protest around 2.30pm local time Tuesday, a day after a Tibetan man burned himself in Ngaba county in eastern Tibet.

Reports say Dolkar Kyi self-immolated at Tso Monastery in Tso City of Kanlho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in eastern Tibet, area that is of religious significance to Tibetan Buddhists.

Sources say Dolkar shouted slogans calling for freedom in Tibet and return of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama while engulfed in flames.

Dolkar reportedly requested to be killed before being taken by Chinese authorities when local people attempted to douse the fire. She was known saying “Don't let me get in Chinese's hands. Agu, hit me with stones and kill me before that.”

Dolkar succumbed to her injuries as she was being carried inside the monastery. Dolkar's self-immolation protest today comes just a day after Lobsang Tsultrim, a 21 years old monk at the Kirti Monastery set himself on fire in the restive Ngaba region.

Many residents of Kanlho prefecture participated in large-scale protests against the Chinese occupation in 2008.

Nearly 50 Tibetans have now set themselves on fire since February 2009 in protest against China’s repressive policies on Tibet. Rights groups and Tibetans in exile say the self-immolations are protests against Beijing’s repressive rule in Tibetan regions. China has blamed the Dalai Lama for inciting the immolations, which he has denied repeteadly.
