Hope Fading for Missing Villagers in Northern China བོད་སྐད།

Chinese state media say the massive mudslide that buried a village in northern China has killed at least 151 people and injured 35 others.

The head of China's ministry of work safety (Wang Jun) told the state-run "China Daily" newspaper there is "almost no hope" for the survival of hundreds of other people buried under tons of mud and debris in Shanxi province.

More than two-thousand rescue workers are digging through the rubble in a search of survivors.

The mudslide happened Monday when heavy rains collapsed a reservoir of iron-ore waste at an illegal mine in Shanxi's Xiangfen county.

The wave of mud and waste inundated a village of about one thousand people.

Police have detained nine of the mine's employees, including the boss.
