North Korea Offers Conditional Invitation to US Nuclear Envoy

North Korea has invited the chief U.S. envoy to six-party talks on its nuclear program to visit Pyongyang, provided Washington meets certain conditions.

North Korea's official news agency quotes a foreign ministry spokesman as saying the invitation is conditional on Washington proving its commitment to an agreement reached during six-party talks last September.

Under the deal, North Korea agreed to abandon its nuclear program in return for humanitarian aid, security guarantees and diplomatic recognition from the U.S.

Pyongyang has since demanded the United States end a financial crackdown on companies linked to North Korea before it agrees to further nuclear talks.

North Korea today repeated the demand - which has been rejected by Washington.
