According to WHO, there were an estimated 582 million cases of 22 different food-born enteric diseases in 2010 and 351,000 associated deaths. “Food production has been industrialized and its trade and distribution have been globalized,” says WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan. “These changes introduce multiple new opportunities for food to become contaminated with harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites, or chemicals.” She said today a plate of food contains ingredients from multiple countries and any food-born disease could spread globally. WHO dedicated its annual World Health Day to the issue of food safety. In Dharamsala, Tibetan government in exile has held a food safety awareness campaign on Tuesday. The officials expressed health problems caused by the old habit of keeping consuming old food.
