Sonam Pelmo: Tibetan Lhamo Performer

Tibetan opera artist in exile during the 1980s, Sonam Pelmo played many lead roles at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Dharamsala, India. Pelmo has travelled with the TIPA troupe throughout India and across the world to perform operas, folk songs, and dances. She tells VOA that she is concerned about the state of Lhamo today, especially in exile where young people are growing up unaware of its beauty and cultural value.
