Kunsang Dolma interviewed Khenpo Karten, a resident Buddhist teacher at Manjushri Dharma Center in California on the Buddhist concept of ‘Bardo’. He says, Bardo is a Tibetan term, which literally means intermediate state or transitional state. According to Tibetan tradition, it means an intermediate state between death and the next life. A 'Bardo Thoedrol' text was discovered in central Tibet during the 14 century by Dupthop Karma Lingpa. This is a funerary text which is recited to guide the spirit of a recently diseased person through ‘bardo’ and assist towards attaining a favorable rebirth.
