Sonam Phuntsok is a leading exile opera singer, performer and teacher who has also acted in films such as Kundun and Dreaming Lhasa. He started at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts at an early age and over the years, mastered a wide range TIPA’s repertoire. In 2003, Phuntsok was appointed the opera teacher at TIPA and since then he has been in charge of the training and performances of Lhamo by the venerable performing arts institution. Phuntsok tells VOA that his dream in life is to have a chance to perform at Norbulingkha Palace in Lhasa, the stage where his own Lhamo Genla performed once for His Holiness.
