Tibetans in exile are marking the anniversary of Tibet's failed 1959 revolt against China and the 2008 Tibetan unrest. Anniversary events also took place in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala, the unofficial government seat for Tibetans in exile. The head of the Central Tibetan Administration, Lobsang Sangay, addressed the crowd.
"Hong Kong and Macau have been granted high degrees of autonomy. Despite resistance in Taiwan, China has offered more autonomy for Taiwan. Why are Tibetans still not granted genuine autonomy as stipulated in the Chinese constitution?"
Lobsang Sangay said that Beijing is keeping the entire Tibetan-populated region under undeclared martial law. He said there is more surveillance cameras than windows in Llasa. Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, attended the event, but did not give a speech.
Hundreds of protesters marched in New Delhi demanding freedom for Tibet. In Katmandu, police clashed with anti-China protesters and some have been arrested. Nepal's government says it does not allow protests against friendly nations.
