Dr Tsering Wangchuk, Kalon of the Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala, North India inaugurated a new private OPD (Outpatient Department) at the Tibetan Delek Hospital on February 6, 2014.

He launched the general health check up, comprehensive health check up, additional special tests, and a special package for women.

Kalon Tsering Wangchuk, who was a practicing doctor before getting into Kashag (Tibetan Cabinet), applauded the healthcare programs carried out by the Delek Hospital and urged the Tibetan public to make use of these new health care schemes.

While speaking to VOA, Dr.Tseten Dorjee Sadutsang, personal physician of the Dalai Lama and Chief Medical Officer of Delek hospital, spoke about the common health problems faced by Tibetans and the importance of regular health check ups to secure a healthy life. He hopes to bring new health care programs to reduce the high number of Hepatitis B and Cancer epidemics in the Tibetan society. Regular health check-ups and a healthy lifestyle can prevent most of the diseases. Early detection of diseases and timely health advice will allow you to enjoy a better and healthier life, he further added.

Tibetan Delek hospital since its establishment in 1971, have been the forefront hospital in providing comprehensive healthcare for Tibetans in exile. Mrs Tsering Peldon, a senior nurse at the Tibetan Delek Hospital, who heads to Social Health Section will be co-ordinating the new services.
