China Sets Up Feedback Site to Government Officials

China has set up a website for citizens to express their views to top leaders, and tens of thousands of people have sent complaints since the feedback site was launched four days ago.

The forum, called "Direct Line to Zhongnanhai," was set up last Wednesday by the People's Daily , the Communist Party's print mouthpiece. Zhongnanhai is the name of the compound in Beijing where top government leaders live and work.

Separate sections were set up for people to communicate with different political leaders.

Many of the complaints focused on free speech, official graft and government housing policies.

The feedback site is a rare example of openness in China, which has a huge online censorship system that aggressively quashes content on topics considered sensitive, such as China's human rights record and criticisms of the government.
