British Nationals Urged to Leave Benghazi

Britain has warned of a "specific and imminent" threat against Westerners in the Libyan city of Benghazi and urged British nationals there to leave immediately.

In a statement Thursday, Britain's Foreign Office said there was a high threat of terrorism in the city adding that attacks could be indiscriminate and target places frequented by foreigners.

The foreign office did not give details on the nature of the threat in Benghazi.

A general advisory that has been in effect since September, warns against travel throughout most of Libya with the exception of a few towns including the capital, Tripoli.

The warning came a day after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before Congress on the September attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi which killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
