The authorities in Tibet have recently intensified their restrictions on the possession of the Dalai Lama’s photo. In Eastern and Western Tibet, people have been sentenced to five years and also fined hundreds of yuan for possessing a photo of the Dalai Lama in their homes. Recent refugees say random raids by security personnel on private homes have been frequent.
