The Arab League says it welcomes U.S. President Barack Obama's visit next month to Egypt, where he will deliver a speech to the Muslim world.
Egypt's official news agency (MENA) reports Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said Mr. Obama has inspired "a new spirit" in the U.S. and around the world.
Egypt also welcomed the president's upcoming visit. Foreign Minister Esmat Abdel Meguid praised Mr. Obama for trying to develop stronger ties with the Arab world.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced the visit on Friday. He said the speech will be directed at the global Muslim community, and its scope will be wider than the leadership of the country where it is given.
During his campaign and since taking office, Mr. Obama has expressed his desire to reach out to the Muslim people.
Last month in a speech in Turkey's capital, Ankara, he said the United States is not, and will never be, at war with Islam.
Many Muslims have welcomed Mr. Obama's moves to close the Guantanamo detention center and ban harsh interrogation techniques for prisoners.
Gibbs said the president will deliver the address on June 4. The exact location in Egypt has not yet been decided.
Gibbs also said Mr. Obama will visit Germany and France during his trip. In Germany, the president will visit the city of Dresden and the site of a World War II Nazi concentration camp in Buchenwald.
In France, he will attend ceremonies marking the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of German-occupied France that helped lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany.
