Authorities in Tibet Forbid Pilgrims Talk to Monks བོད་སྐད།


Chinese authorities in Tibet forbid pilgrims to talk to monks in major monasteries. Pilgrims, who arrived in Katmandu state that when they went with a group of pilgrims to visit Sera, Drepung and Gaden, the three major monasteries in Tibet, they discovered that they could not talk to monks. Chinese security keep a constant watch.

Around mid of November 2008, there were very few monks visible in Sera, Drepung and Gaden monasteries, according to tourists and other new arrivals. About 800 monks studying in these monasteries were forcefully taken to Amdo region in April 2008, after demonstrations in Tibet’s capital, Lhasa. That is why, now there are few monks left in these monasteries, added new arrivals.
