Nepalese Militants Suspected in Bhutan Bombings བོད་སྐད།

Police in Bhutan say they suspect militants based in Nepal were responsible for four bomb blasts that rocked the isolated Himalayan kingdom Sunday, wounding one woman.

A police spokesman says three Maoist and communist groups are suspected of involvement in the attacks (- the Bhutan Tiger Forces, the Bhutan Maoists Party and the Communist Party of Bhutan). Authorities say the explosions did not cause any significant damage.

The blasts occurred just days after officials announced a date for Bhutan's first elections - a vote that will end a century of monarchy. Bhutan will hold democratic elections on March 24th.

Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations in the modern world. Foreign visitors are limited and the kingdom only introduced television in 1999.
