Officials from India and China are scheduled to meet in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa at the weekend to finalize dates to reopen trade through Nathula pass. A six-member Indian commerce ministry delegation will hold talks with Chinese counterparts Saturday in Lhasa to resume trade through Nathula Pass between the Indian state of Sikkim and the Tibetan region. In May, India's junior trade minister Jairam Ramesh said he expected trading to resume in July 2006, three years after an agreement was reached to reopen the Pass. Mr. Claude Arpi, an Indian expert on Indo-China relations tells VOA that the opening of the Pass will prove very useful for both China and India.
