Pakistani Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Former PM Bhutto

A Pakistani court has issued arrest warrants for exiled former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari.

The two are accused of submitting false statements of their assets with the country's Election Commission after the 1996 election. Pakistani law requires lawmakers to make complete disclosure of assets to the commission.

The warrants mandate that they appear before the court in July.

News of the warrants comes one day after Ms. Bhutto met with her former rival Nawaz Sharif to discuss contesting next year's expected elections.

Benazir Bhutto was prime minister of Pakistan on two separate occasions. She fled the country in 1999 after being accused of corruption.

Courts have previously issued such warrants for Ms. Bhutto and her husband.
