The mother of the Dalai Lama was commonly known by Tibetans as "Gyayum Chenmo" or "the Great Mother". Her early life in northeastern Tibet was harsh. After she followed the Dalai Lama into exile with tens of thousands of Tibetans, the Gyayum Chenmo devoted herself to education among the refugees. On this week's Tibetan TV call-in show.
