Car Bomb Blast in Iraq at Shi'ite Shrine Kills 10

A car bomb has killed at least 10 people near a Shi'ite Muslim shrine in the southern Iraqi city of Najaf.

The bomb exploded near the tomb of Imam Ali, the Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law -- one of the holiest places in the world for Shi'ites. At least 30 other people were wounded in the blast.

In Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed a policeman Thursday.

Earlier, the U.S. military announced the capture of a former senior Iraqi intelligence official suspected of having close ties to wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. It says Iraqi forces captured Muhammed Hila Hammad Ubaydi in Baghdad last month.

He was wanted in connection with several kidnappings, bombing attacks and assassination attempts.

And the trial of Saddam Hussein has been adjourned until April 12, after a brief session, where prosecutors questioned one of Saddam's seven co-defendants (the former chief of Saddam's Revolutionary Court, Awad al-Bandar).

Saddam Hussein and his associates are accused of killing more than 140 Shi'ites in the village of Dujail in 1982.

They could face death if found guilty.

Iraqi prosecutors plan a separate trial for Saddam and six of his cohorts on charges of genocide against Iraq's Kurds in the 1980s.
