Human Rights Watch
is calling for China to allow independent doctors and human rights monitors into a prison where five Tibetans have been held without trial for more than six months.
The New York-based rights group said Thursday the five have been held in Sichuan province without any charges against them made public.
It says they were detained after some 300 Tibetans reportedly burned down a privately-owned slaughterhouse after disputes with local officials in Manigango, a predominately Tibetan part of Sichuan province.
Human Rights Watch says a sixth detainee was released after going blind in custody as a result of alleged beatings and a lack of access to medical care.
It urged China to give a full account of what has happened to the men.
