Statement by Special Envoy Lodi Gyari, Sent by Dalai Lama to China


six point statement by Special Envoy Lodi Gyari, Head of the Delegation
sent by His Holiness the Dalai lama to China.

Statement was read out to the media by the Spokesperson of exile-Tibean Government Mr.Thubten Samphel, during which he said, in continutation of the proces started with the re-establishment of direct contact with the Chinese leadership in September of 2002, my colleague envoy Kelsang Gyaltsen and I (Lodi Gyari), accompanied by two senior aides, sonam Norbu Dagpo and Bhuchung Tsering visited china from February 15 to 23.

Meeting with the Exective Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department, Zhu Weiqun in the Guilin City, during which we discussed about the Tibetan issues and in the process there was a better and deeper understanding of each other's position and the fundmental differences that continue to exist in the position held by the two parties.

The spokepesrson continues by saying,during this round of discussion it made clear that there is a major difference between the two sides, but eventhen the Tibetan side remain committed to the dialogue process and hope that in the end there will be a good result and from the Chinese side they made it clear that their interest in continuing the present process and their firm belief that the obstacles can be overcome through more discussion and engagements and as the Tibean sides expressed their interest in looking at the situation of the different autonomous regions during their previous meetings, this time the delegation visited Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the visit was useful.
