Tibetan Political Prisoner Released Mentally and Physically Damaged

A Tibetan political prisoner was released after serving a four year prison term in a Chinese prison on December 6, 2016.

According to Venerable Jamyang Jinpa of Depung Monastery in South India, Gyatag, 65 years of age from Rebkong county, Qinghai province was recently released from the prison with severe mental and physical damage.

Ven Jinpa tells VOA's Tibetan Service that based on reliable information he received from Tibet, Gyatag had become physically handicapped, where he is unable to use both his legs and hands, and suffers from mental illness including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of enduring torture in prison.

According to the same source, the Chinese authorities have banned people from visiting the recently released political prisoner.
