The Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala, Northern India has appealed for the international community to urge China to allow representatives from the United Nations to visit the Panchen Lama and pressure the government to release him along with all the other political prisoners in Tibet.

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima at the young age of six was recognized as the reincarnation of the 10th Panchen Lama by the Dalai Lama, and within three days of this announcement, he was abducted.

CTA presented a three point direction for the international community to undertake on the International Solidarity Day on May 17, 2015.

Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, the spokesperson of CTA briefed the media on CTA’s appeal for the release of the Panchen Lama and the initiatives surrounding the appeal. He read out a statement from Kalon Dickyi Chhoyang of Department of Information and International Relations that gave a clear background of Panchen Lama's situation since his abduction, and how the international bodies and China's stand on his issue.

Panchen Lama, the second highest lama in the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism is one of the world's youngest political prisoner since his abduction at age six, and has been in captivity for twenty years. He will turn 26 on April 25 of this year.
