On the morning of July 15, 2014 the Dalai Lama consecrated and inaugurated the new assembly hall of Ruthok Lhundup Choding monastery in the Sonamling Tibetan Settlement, Choglamsar in Leh Ladakh.

The Dalai Lama urged them to make it a Buddhist learning centre for the lay people.

"As advised His Holiness, we have built this new assembly hall meant for giving religious instructions to lay people. We are extremely happy to have His Holiness to inaugurate and also consecrate it today," says the Abbot of the Ruthok monatery, Geshe Jampa Gyatso from Sera Je moastery in South India.

Ruthok monastery in Tibet was founded in 1337 C.E. and during the time of 7th Dalai Lama, it was put under Sera Je monastery in central Tibet.
