The Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy along with the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts organized a concert on the 21st World Press Day to fight the Blackout in Tibet on May 4, 2014.

According to the press release issued by TCHRD, ‘Fight the Blackout’ campaign aims to highlight and end the extreme restrictions put on independent journalists and human rights monitors to visit and assess the ground situation in Tibet as Tibetans continue to self-immolate in protest, and become victims of human rights abuses.

A Delhi-based Big Bang Blues, TIPA artists, and other supporters performed at the concert that took place on the evening of May 3, 2014.

Tsering Yangkey, the Director of TIPA in her introductory remarks reminded everyone the responsibility to highlight the grave press freedom in Tibet.

Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, urged China to lift the ban of freedom of press to preserve their international status.

Tenzin Tselha, SFT Grassroot Co-ordinator and Kungam, Secretary at the Guchusum freedom movement shared their views on the current status of press freedom inside Tibet.
