The Tibetan Administration in Exile celebrated the 25th birthday of Gedun Chokyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama recognized by the Dalai Lama in 1995 with an official ceremony at the main temple, Tsuglakhang, Dharamsala, North India on April 25, 2014.

Addressing the ceremony, Pema Chinjor, the Minister of Department of Religion and Culture, recalled the situation of the youngest political prisoner on his 25th birthday and applauded everyone who have worked towards appealing for his release from the Chinese prison. He also called on China to disclose the real situation of the youngest political prisoner.

Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile said, “China has repeatedly said that the Panchen Lama is alive, and that it is the Chinese government’s responsibility to provide detail accounts of Panchen Lama including his whereabouts to the Tibetans and the world.

In the afternoon, various NGOs based in Dharamsala distributed birthday cake in honor of Panchen Gedun Chokyi Nyima.
