Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Says China Responsible for Self-Immolations

In a press statement issued yesterday, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile said it holds China responsible for the increasing number of Tibetan self-immolation since February 2009.

Pema Jungney, standing comittee member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile condemned China for repression in Tibet following the self-immolations.

"China is responsible for all the self-immolations so far and must give clear information about those five who are supposed to be living" said Jungney.

In the statement, the Tibetan Parliament said China's racial descrimination, violation of freedom of religion, culture, speech and destruction of environment are main reasons leading Tibetans to turn to self-immolation and called on China to change its repressive policies in Tibet.

Pema Jungney urged the United Nations and the international community to help and press China to solve the problems in Tibet peacefully.
