Released Tibetan Nun in Serious Health Condition

A Tibetan nun earlier jailed for 2008 protest in Tibet was released last Friday in critical health condition, Pema Tsewang, a Tibetan monk at the Sera Monastery told the Voice of America Tibetan Service.

31-year-old Tashi Yangzom was arrested on May 20, 2008 along with two other nuns at Nyagye monastery for staging a protest calling for Tibet’s independence in a prominent market square in Kardze County.

So-Choekyi and Achoe were released last year after their health deteriorated due to repeated torture in prison.

Yangzom lost hearing ability of her ear, fractured her left hand twice and is said to have serious health complications due to severe beatings in the prison.

Yangzom is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Chengdu.
